On March 2, 2023, Prismark US issued a recall for their Children’s Bamboo Plates. According to the recall, number 23-139, the bamboo plates have elevated levels of both lead and formaldehyde, which are known to be toxic if ingested and result in adverse health effects. The recall affects approximately 1,665 units.
The affected plates have the following product numbers printed on the packaging: 6041901, 7981401, 8096001 and 8096002. These include plates in the shape of a bear, a bunny, a rainbow, and Winnie the Pooh character.
The recalled products were sold at Primark US stores in the northeast region, in Florida, and in Chicago between October 2021 and August 2022. The plates were sold for $8.
Allegedly, no incidents have been reported. Still, the company is urging to take the recalled plates away from children and stop their use; consumers are also urged to return the plates to a Primark store for a full refund or to contact the company for instructions on disposal to get a refund.
