Chamberlain Group Garage Door Control Panel Recall Class Action Lawsuit

Chamberlain Group Garage Door Control Panel Recall Class Action Lawsuit sue lawsuit lawyer attorney compensation incident accident

On February 9, 2023, a recall was issued by Chamberlain Group for approximately 96,400 units of the LiftMaster myQ Garage Door Control Panels. The device’s secondary entrapment protection feature may fail to spot an obstruction, which means the door can come down on a person or vehicle without notice.

Some of the panels were sold individually, while others were sold with wall-mount residential jackshaft garage door openers. The recalled products were manufactured from March 2022 to October 2022 with the following model numbers:

    • 8500MC
    • 8500CMC
    • 8500RGDMC
    • RJO20MC
    • RJO20CMC
    • RJO20CHMC
    • 889LMMC
    • 889RGDMC
    • 041A7928-3MC

According to Chamberlain Group, affected consumers should stop using the product immediately and contact them to ask for a free repair kit, which will include a replacement control panel with instructions for installation. However, these panels are a serious entrapment hazard, and for anyone that’s already had an accident, a repair kit is not a sufficient remedy. If you are one of these individuals, you may be entitled to compensation in the form of medical expenses, lost income, pain and suffering, and other monetary damages. Call us right away to discuss your legal options with one of our attorneys.

What to Do if You’ve been Injured by this Product

Taking the right steps to preserve evidence and build a strong case is essential if you plan on taking legal action against the manufacturer. That’s why we strongly encourage you to do the following if a defective garage door controller has caused you to have an accident:

    • If it’s possible, take pictures of any visible injuries to your body, as well as any damage to your property.
    • Go to a hospital right away, as blunt force trauma injuries are not always visible and must be diagnosed by a medical professional.
    • Call the manufacturer and notify them of your accident, but don’t agree to accept a free repair kit or any other remedy until you’ve spoken to a lawyer. Also, make sure to say no if they ask for a recorded statement.
    • Gather evidence that will support your right to compensation, such as witness statements, medical records, and proof of lost wages / missed time at work.
    • Give us a call to speak with a defective product accident injury attorney.

Can I File a Class Action Lawsuit?

Yes, you can initiate or join a class action lawsuit on this case with others who have suffered similar injuries due to a defective Chamberlain Group garage door control panel. Because the recall was issued so recently, there is no class action or mass tort on these cases just yet, but we believe that it’s only a matter of time, considering over 96,000 units were recalled by the manufacturer. To learn more about the claims process, all you have to do is contact us and ask, “How can I join a class action lawsuit on this case?”
