On February 5, 2026, Mameix Retail issued a recall for their Scepter Gas and Oil Combination Fuel Containers. According to the recall (recall # 26-252), the recalled fuel containers violate mandatory safety standards for portable fuel containers as required under the Portable Fuel Container Safety Act because they do not have flame mitigation devices. Because of this, the container poses a deadly risk of flash fire. In addition, the spout on the product is not child-resistant, so it is in violation of the Children’s Gasoline Burn Prevention Act and poses a risk of burn/poisoning to children.
The recall affects approximately 700 units of the products. More specifically, the Scepter B62 gas and oil fuel containers are included in the recall. The containers are red with black caps and yellow spouts on each end. The containers have dual chambers with 6-liter gas capacity on one side and 2.5-liter oil capacity on the other side. “Scepter” and “Essence Danger” are embossed on the side of the fuel container.
The recalled combination fuel containers were sold on Amazon.com from August 2024 to May 2025 for approximately $40 each.
According to the recall, no incidents or injuries have been reported.
The company is urging all affected consumers to stop using the recalled fuel containers, place them out of the reach of children, and contact them for a full refund (after following disposal instructions).
If you or your child suffered harm as a result of the defective Scepter fuel containers, it is important that you do not follow the suggestions of the company. Instead, you should reach out to an experienced legal team as soon as possible.
The Injuries that May Occur
The recalled fuel containers pose multiple risks. Firstly, because of the lack of flame mitigation devices, there is a risk of flash fire. Injuries associated with flash fire may include severe burns, respiratory injuries, and more. Secondly, because of the lack of child-resistant spouts, the product poses a burn and poisoning risk to children. The ingestion of fuel can lead to irritation of the digestive tract and aspiration into the lungs which can lead to chemical pneumonitis. Skin exposure can result in skin irritation, redness, and chemical burns. No matter the specific harm that occurs, it is important that you explore the legal options available to you.
What to do If Harm Occurs
If the defective product causes an incident that leads to any harm, it is important for affected parties to act accordingly. Consider the recommended steps to take:
- Take photos of the entire scene of the incident
- Take photos of the defective product
- Seek medical care as soon as possible and always follow all treatment recommendations
- Contact the company to report the incident and the harm that occurred
- Do not agree to a refund
- Do not agree to a replacement product
- Do not agree to return the product
- Do not agree to any remedy offered by the company
- Gather all relevant medical records
- If appropriate, gather records of lost income
- If applicable, gather records of all property damage
- Speak to witnesses and collect their contact information
- Gather any video footage of the incident
- Seek the guidance of a recall lawyer
