A teen boy and an adult man were rushed to the hospital after a possible drowning incident at a Lincoln Heights park Tuesday evening, according to authorities. The incident occurred at Lincoln Park in the 3500 block of North Mission Road. Crews with the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) responded to the scene at around 6:35pm after reports of multiple people in the water.
Firefighters recovered a juvenile male from the water in fair condition. They requested the LAPD Dive Team as there were concerns that a second person may have been submerged in the water. The second person was later located and rescued from the water.
Both individuals were transported to local hospitals by paramedics.
According to LAFD, the juvenile, who was determined to be 16 years old, was listed in fair condition. The adult male, believed to be 50 to 60 years old, was in grave condition. The relationship between the two patients was not confirmed.
Unfortunately, these incidents occur quite often. Lakes in parks and recreational areas can pose a great risk to the public. If you or a member of your family were involved in this incident or a similar incident, please do not hesitate to explore the legal options available to you.

About Lincoln Park Lake
Lincoln Park Lake is a 4.9-acre urban lake located in the Lincoln Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles. The park was originally Eastlake Park. It is a historic location that offers fishing, picnic areas, walking paths, a playground, and other activities. According to reports, the lake has an average depth of about four feet.
Harm from Near-Drowning Incidents
Near-drowning incidents can result in significant harm as a direct result from the oxygen deprivation or hypoxia during submersion. This can lead to damage to the brain, lungs, and heart. Survivors of near-drowning incidents could potentially suffer from neurological damage, respiratory distress, cardiovascular issues, secondary complications (like hypothermia, for example), and physical trauma sustained while underwater. In addition, survivors may be left suffering significant psychological harm, which could include post-traumatic stress, anxiety, panic, depression, and more.
Can I File a Lawsuit?
Yes, you could have grounds to file a lawsuit based on the details surrounding the claim. For instance, if an investigation into the incident determines that the incident occurred due to the recklessness of the property owner or department responsible for maintaining the premises (in this case, the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks), could be responsible for any harm that occurs. This is because the agency has a duty to keep the premises safe. If they knew or should have known that an incident could occur, then they could be sued.
Without a doubt, it can be difficult to understand the legal options available especially after a devastating incident. To ensure that you have a thorough understanding of the legal options available to you, please do not hesitate to reach out to our firm as soon as possible.
