Salewa USA Superlight Rocks Cable Recall Class Action Lawsuit

Salewa USA Superlight Rocks Cable Recall Class Action Lawsuit liability lawyer attorney sue

On July 20, 23, Salewa USA issued a recall for their Wild Country Superlight Rocks cable wire chocks. The products are used for climbing. According to the recall, number 23-247, when the product is exposed to seaside conditions, corrosion can occur; the corrosion can weaken the cable chocks and can break. Of course, this poses a significant fall risk to climbers.

The recall affects over 3,500 units in the U.S. and over 220 units in Canada.

These include the Wild Country bran Superlight Rocks with model number 40-RSL and the Superlight Rocks Set 1-6 with model number 40-RSLSET. The products were sold both in a set of 6 and individually in six sizes and colors. These included the following: size 1 (purple), size 2 (green), size 3 (silver), size 4 (gold), size 5 (blue), and size 6 (red). The swage on the chock contains other identifying information, including the brand name, product name, and batch code.

The recalled products were sold from January 2017 to February 2023 for prices ranging between $14 and $16 for an individual item and approximately $80 for a set. They were available for purchase at REI, MEI, and other specialty outdoor retailers nationwide. They were also available online via www.wildcountry.com, www.campsaver.com, and www.backcountry.com.

Affected consumers are urged to stop using the product and contact the company for a free replacement (including free shipping). The products are being replaced with Wild Country Rocks 40-RWA or the new Superlight Rocks (which will be available in a few months).

If you or a loved one suffered harm associated with the defective product mentioned above, it is important that you do not agree to a replacement product. If you suffered serious injuries or a member of your family died as a result of the defective product, you should not settle for a replacement. It is important that you fight for your rights and hold the negligent product manufacturer accountable for the harm that you or a loved one suffered. If you are interested in learning more about the legal options available to you, we recommend that you seek legal assistance today.

    What Injuries Could Occur?

Rock climbing is a dangerous sport. Without the necessary precautions, safety equipment, and know-how, devastating injuries can happen. Some of the injuries that can occur as a direct result of the defective Superlight Rock product discussed above include the following:

    • Head injuries and traumatic brain injuries
    • Neck injuries
    • Back injuries
    • Spinal cord injuries
    • Shoulder injuries
    • Hip injuries
    • Pelvic injuries
    • Fractures

    • Crushing injuries
    • Lacerations
    • Scrapes and bruises

Although some of these injuries might seem only minor listed above, it is important to note that incidents can have devastating consequences.

    What Should I Do?

If you or a loved one suffered harm associated with the defective product, you could have the right to sue. Consider the steps to take listed below:

    • Seek medical attention as soon as possible (Note: If the incident was fatal, ensure that the cause of death is clear)
    • Take photos (take photos of the scene of the incident, the defective product, and the injuries suffered)
    • Contact the company to report the incident and resulting harm (it is important to never agree to a replacement, a return, a refund, or anything else offered by the company)
    • Collect all relevant medical records
    • Collect all records associated with lost income or loss of support
    • Speak to witnesses
    • Gather any video footage that might have captured the incident
    • Seek legal assistance as soon as possible
