Driver Kills Two Young Brothers in Los Angeles

On September 30th, 2020, two young boys were killed in a traffic accident. The boys were crossing the street when they were struck by a driver. One of the boys died at the scene of the accident; the other was transported to a local hospital, where he died hours later.

The boys were on a scooter and roller blades, respectively. They were 11 and 9 years old and were brothers. They were out with their parents when they were hit by the driver.

The driver was identified as Rebecca Grossman, who published Westlake Magazine and later founded the Grossman Burn Foundation. There are suspicions that street racing was involved, or that Grossman was possibly inebriated. So far, she has not cooperated with investigators, and has been arrested on two counts of vehicular manslaughter.

We are aware of the considerable assets the defendant owns and we’d be interested in having a confidential conversation with the family.

Dangers of Traffic Accidents with Children

Children who are on scooters, bicycles, roller blades, and other modes of transportation need to be extremely careful when they are on the street or on the sidewalk. Drivers cannot always see small children, and if they suddenly dart out from behind a parked car, tree, or other obstacle, it can be difficult to stop in time. Children do not always have proper lighting on their bicycles or clothing, either.

Some of the injuries that can occur include:

    • Muscle damage
    • Knee and hip injuries
    • Dislocations
    • Concussions
    • Sprained joints
    • Strains
    • Crushing and puncture injuries
    • Spinal cord and neck injuries
    • Traumatic brain injuries
    • Broken bones
    • Herniated discs
    • Coma
    • Paralysis
    • Death

Drivers can cause accidents in the following ways:

    • Drunk driving
    • Running red lights
    • Running stop signs
    • Failure to signal
    • Failure to look both ways when crossing an intersection
    • Tired driving
    • Driving in fog or other inclement weather
    • Driving at night without proper headlights or broken headlamps
    • Distracted driving
    • Texting while on the road
    • Driving while inebriated from various substances

If you or your child was hurt in a traffic accident, do not hesitate to get started on legal action.

How to Sue for Damages from a Car Accident

If you wish to file a claim for injuries suffered from a car accident, you will need to provide sufficient proof of the damages. Your first step should be to seek medical treatment – call an ambulance if necessary so the paramedics can come and investigate. The police will likely come as well. While at the hospital, take note of all treatments and get copies of medical records, test results, doctor’s notes, and more. You should get receipts of any insurance billing as well.

It is extremely important that you do not hesitate to go to the doctor or get treatment. If you do, you run the risk of your health worsening and your injuries becoming more problematic. You should be sure to get treated immediately. Additionally, the longer you wait to file a lawsuit, the easier it will be for an insurance agent to dismiss the case. He will say that you must not have been seriously hurt if you could afford to wait to see a doctor, or he could say that you were actually injured in another incident and you are merely trying to assign blame to the incident in question.

You must take pictures of the damages you suffered. If your injuries heal quickly, it’s possible that they can be ignored or dismissed. You should take pictures as soon as possible, and also take pictures of the scene of the accident. It will be crucial to illustrate the environment at the time to back up your claim. It is possible that video was being recorded; if so, you can add it to your case as well.

You will need the contact information, driver’s license number, insurance details, and other important details from the responsible driver. This will help you correctly identify the insurance agency you will need to file a claim with.

There may have been other eyewitnesses nearby, such as pedestrians or other drivers, who saw the crash happen. You can request that they provide you with their testimonies and statements to support your perspective. The more individuals you have on your side, the less likely it is that the responsible driver will simply be able to express a different view.

You can ask for a copy of the police report once it has been finalized and filed. This will show the results of the investigation at the scene, which can bolster your claim.

Finally, it is highly recommended that you reach out to a skilled lawyer who can handle your case for you. If you have never taken legal action before, you might not know how to proceed. You might not have the time, knowledge, experience, or funds to carry out a claim, and to make matters worse, the stress could easily delay the healing process. If you have to take care of a child who was hurt, the added time sink of a lawsuit will also make it difficult. With the assistance of an attorney, you will not have to worry about anything but providing the details while we handle the legwork.

Compensation from a Car Crash Lawsuit

Our team of attorneys will work around the clock to ensure that your case is a success. The insurance agent assigned to your claim will do everything in his power to make a small offer, and he will try to pay as little as he can. The insurance company wants to preserve profits and not issue settlements. Our attorneys will negotiate and fight for your fair damages. Throughout the case, the agent will consider the degree of injuries suffered, the responsibility of the victim in the incident, the age of those involved, the careers, and more. He will then make an offer.

Our goal will be to secure you the maximum settlement available under the law. We will pursue the following damages:

    • Medical bills and expenses from the past and future for any surgery, physical therapy, medication, ambulatory transportation, hospitalization, and more
    • Property damage for any items or belongings that were lost or broken in the incident
    • Lost income if you were unable to return to work, whether in the past or future, which may include lost tips, bonuses, salary, commission, benefits, and more
    • Pain and suffering damages to account for mental trauma, stress, PTSD, anxiety, emotional scarring, and more
    • Wrongful death damages to pay for the loss of a life, which can include funeral and burial fees, pre-death medical bills, pre-death pain and suffering, loss of inheritance, loss of consortium, and more
    • Punitive damages, which are additional forms of compensation handed out in times of gross negligence; these damages are often viewed as excessive, though, and can only be won by a skilled lawyer
