Trek Bicycle Pedals Recall Class Action Lawsuit

Trek Recalls Bicycle Pedals due to Fall and Injury Risk lawyer lawsuit incident accident liability attorney sue compensation

On May 26, 2021, Trek issued a recall for their Bontrager Satellite City Bicycle Pedals. According to the recall, number 21-142, if the pedals are incorrectly installed by the retailer during assembly, they can fall off the crank arm and pose a fall and injury risk to riders. The recall has affected approximately 316,500 products.

The recall specifically involves the Bontrager Satellite City Pedals, installed as original equipment on multiple bicycles, including the Trek “Allant+,” “Dual Sport+,” “FX 2,” “FX 3,” “Verve 2,” “Verve 3,” and “Verve+.” The bicycles have “ZTR02” stamped on the pedals (including on the pedals that were sold separately as replacements. The affected pedals have orange reflectors on the outside edges.

The bicycles with the defective pedals were sold from January 2018 through April 2021 for prices ranging from $600 to $6,000 at Trek Bicycle stores, other bike stores nationwide, and online at trekbikes.com.

According to Trek, there have been 132 reports of the pedals either loosening, locking, or falling off. At least 7 of these reports consisted of riders falling and suffering injuries, some of which included road rash, scrapes, and bruises.

The company is recommended that affected consumers stop using the bicycles equipped with the defective pedals and contact their local retailers for free installation of replacement pedals. Although this sounds like a great solution for consumers who have been unaffected by the defective product, it is not a solution for consumers who have been harmed due to the defective product.

Is there a Class Action Lawsuit?

Can I file a class action lawsuit? How can I join or be a part of a class action lawsuit on this case? If the defective product harmed many parties, then it is likely that there is a class action claim in which you could participate. In some cases, there might be mass torts rather than a class action lawsuit – mass torts are single claims against the same company.
