The Long Beach Police Department responded to the Denny’s restaurant located on the 600 block of Long Beach Boulevard at around 1:39 a.m. after receiving a call of sexual assault involving a minor in the restaurant. According to reports a Good Samaritan noticed what was happening and got help. Civilians detained the man – who has been identified as Jimmie Kirkwood (33 years old) – until officers arrived at the scene.
When officers arrived, they found that he had stab wounds; he was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. It is unclear whether the stab wounds occurred during the attempted sexual assault of the minor or during a previous incident.
The suspect is accused of lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14 years old, assault with the intention to commit rape, and false imprisonment, according to the police department.
