    Bellman & Symfon Issues Recall for Flash Receivers for Hearing-Impaired Individuals

    On April 30, 2020, Bellman & Symfon issued a recall for their flash receivers – which are designed to alert hearing-impaired individuals to emergencies. According to the recall, number 20-114, the back-up battery can fail to charge fully, causing the receiver to not work as intended and potentially failing to flash to alert hearing-impaired individuals to an emergency. The recall has affected approximately 450 units of the product.

    The flash receivers are white and are approximately six inches tall and three inches wide. They sit on a white cylinder base. On the front of the unit, the Bellman & Symfon logo is printed. Only the products with the following serial number ranges are included in the recall:

    The affected serial numbers can be found printed on the body of the units under the battery covers (the serial number bar code is located under the batteries).

    The defective flash receivers were available for purchase from June 2016 through March 2020 for approximately $185 each. They were available online via HarrisComm.com.

    According to the company, no incidents or injuries have been reported. The company is urging affected consumers to immediately contact them to receive a free repair. The company claims that consumers could continue using the products until they receive a free repair; however, they recommend that consumers unplug and re-plug their products to keep them powered properly.
