    How To Obtain A Traffic Collision Report from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office

    You can request a copy of a police report from the LA County Sheriffs in-person or through the mail. To request a police report in person, you will need to visit the office and present a valid form of identification. The address and hours of operation are listed below:

    Opened: Monday through Thursday 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

    Requests that are made in-person are processed on a first-come, first-serve basis. The process can take anywhere from one to three hours depending on the day and time.

    To request through the mail, you need to submit your written request to the following address:

     

    Records and Identification Bureau

    Attention: Correspondence Unit

    You will need to include the following information in your written request:

    • Your full name and date of birth
    • The address to which the report should be mailed
    • Your signature
    • Proof of identification (government issued only)

    Although it is not required, you should also include any report numbers, the date of the incident, and the location of the incident. This additional information makes it easier to locate your report.

    Requests submitted through the mail can take anywhere from ten to fifteen business days to be completed and mailed back to you. An example of what your written request should consist of is shown at the end of this article.

    The request will come with a fee of $25 if you provide a file number or $35 if you do not provide a file number. Acceptable payment methods include cash, personal checks, money orders, cashier’s checks and credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, and American Express). Checks and money orders should be made payable to the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department or LASD.
