Big Rig Crashes into Cement Truck in Deadly Pileup Crash on 10 Freeway

Big Rig Crashes into Cement Truck in Deadly Pileup Crash on 10 Freeway sue liable incident compensation lawyer attorney

Footage shows a big rig plowing head-on into a cement truck, resulting in an eight-car pileup on Interstate 10. The footage captured the commercial truck bursting into flames as it traveled into oncoming traffic near Thousand Palms on the morning of Tuesday, April 14, 2026.

The driver of the cement truck was killed and many others were injured in the pileup.

The cement-truck driver has been identified as a 62-year-old man from Yucca Valley. The big-rig driver has been identified as a 38-year-old man from Menifee; he was transported to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs with major injuries.

According to officials with the California Highway Patrol, the big rig appeared to have crossed the center divider before the crash occurred. The crash occurred near the Washington Street exit.

The crash left both trucks heavily damaged. It is unclear what companies either the cement truck or big rig were affiliated with. From the footage, however, the big rig appeared to be white and the cement truck had a red cabin with a yellow cement container.

The incident resulted in heavy traffic along the 10 westbound, as several lanes remained closed until later that night.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Unfortunately, these incidents can happen at any time. Truck drivers, which are likely to be overworked and fatigued, can lose control of their vehicles and crash into oncoming traffic, which can have devastating consequences.

If you or a member of your family suffered any harm related to this incident, it is important that you understand that you could have the right to pursue a claim. To ensure that you have a thorough understanding of the legal options available to you, please do not hesitate to reach out to the Normandie Law Firm as soon as possible.

    Common Causes of Truck Accidents

Auto accidents involving trucks, like big rigs, cement trucks, and any other commercial vehicle, can lead to devastating results. This is because these vehicles are much larger and heavier than the average passenger vehicle. They require a much longer distance to come to a safe stop and can be more difficult to maneuver.

Some of the possible causes of these crashes could include the following:

    • Reckless driving, including speeding, failing to yield, distracted driving, etc.
    • Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol (or prescription medication)
    • Driving fatigued, falling asleep behind the wheel, etc.
    • Poor training, lack of license, etc.
    • Pressure to meet strict deadlines
    • And more

Although many of these incidents can occur due to the reckless actions of the driver behind the wheel, the truth is that liability can fall onto the driver’s employer. Employers can enforce strict deadlines resulting in drivers missing their breaks or rest periods and disciplinary actions if deadlines are not met, for example. Employers may also fail to properly train drivers, fail to ensure that they have the necessary license, and fail to take action after initial incidents, for instance. All of this can lead to incidents and dangerous injuries.

Examples of the Injuries that May Occur

A head-on crash involving a big rig and a cement truck can result in devastating injuries. Examples of these injuries may include the following:

    • Traumatic brain injuries and other head injuries
    • Neck injuries and back injuries
    • Spinal cord injuries, which can lead to paralysis and quadriplegia
    • Fractures and dislocations
    • Severed limbs
    • Impalement
    • Crushing injuries
    • Psychological harm, like PTSD, anxiety, panic, etc.
    • Death
